Frequently Asked Questions

Why do people come to counselling?

Some people come for support for very specific problems. Some people come with life concerns that they are wondering about and want to explore a little. Some come for support and celebration of who they are and how they want to live their lives. All come for a confidential space where they are accepted and respected.

What problems do you specialize in?

My approach is first and foremost relational. I don’t categorize people as problems. I specialize in developing unique relationships with each person or relationship I support, and together we address the problems, life concerns, and interests that you bring to therapy.

All people are welcome.

All problems are welcome.

Does the kind of therapy matter?

The counselling relationship is at the heart of counselling effectiveness regardless of the kind of therapy utilized. This is why we begin with an introductory conversation, so that you have a chance to see if who I am and my approach aligns with you and your needs. Then we can make a decision about whether we would like to work together.

Is online counselling as effective as in-person counselling?

It has been my experience that relationships and connection develop online as well as in-person, and I have heard the same from the people I collaborate with. Research indicates this as well. I encourage you to explore what works for you.

How often should you come to counselling and when does counselling end?

People come to counselling at different frequencies and for varying durations in light of their specific needs and preferences. Whether a few sessions or many, whether brief, intermittent, or ongoing, my intention is to make it comfortable for you to decide what is helpful. Let’s work together to discover what works for you.

How do I get started?

Just fill out your info on the contact page or send me a direct email, and I will reach out to schedule a 15-20 minute introductory conversation with no obligation on either side. If we decide to work together, you will need to fill out a couple of brief digital forms for consent and basic info and off we go. I use online software called Jane App for scheduling and secure video.
